We’re excited to announce the launch of the brand-new Flourish with Phoenix website! This project is a wonderful extension of the work being done by the Phoenix Children’s Foundation, dedicated to enhancing the lives of children, young people, and their families through enriching experiences in nature.
Flourish with Phoenix has grown from being a subpage on the Phoenix Children’s Foundation website into its own dedicated platform. The new site is designed to better serve families and service providers, offering an easy-to-navigate and informative digital experience that reflects the unique offerings of the program. Visitors can now explore the range of services offered and learn more about the mission of Flourish with Phoenix in a more structured and engaging way.
Case Study: Flourish with Phoenix Website Design
Client Overview
Flourish with Phoenix is a nature-based enrichment program under the Phoenix Children’s Foundation. The program offers therapeutic and educational experiences for children and young people of all abilities but with additional needs, helping them thrive through animal care, nature crafting, and forest school activities. After operating as a subpage on the Phoenix Children’s Foundation website, Flourish with Phoenix needed a dedicated platform to better serve its community.
The Challenge
Before the project, Flourish with Phoenix was confined to a single, text-heavy subpage that made it difficult for visitors to engage with their offerings. The organisation needed a dedicated site that would make their services more accessible and visually engaging. Additionally, due to a previous cyberattack that took down their former site, security was a top concern for the new build.
Objectives
The primary objectives of this project were:
- To create a clean, concise brochure-style website that reflects the values of Flourish with Phoenix.
- To include a document library, accessible only to logged-in users, for service providers to download important documents.
- To ensure robust security measures were in place to protect the site from future attacks.
- To design a site that was easy for the client to manage independently using WordPress.
Our Approach
After discussions with the client, we decided to base the design on a brochure they provided and draw inspiration from similar websites they admired. The client wanted a simple, single-page brochure site, but given the amount of content they had, I proposed expanding to include additional subpages for more detailed information, including an About page, Services page, Team page, and Contact page. This approach allowed us to keep the homepage concise while providing depth where necessary.
To meet the client’s security concerns, I implemented several measures:
- Eliminated the default “Admin” username and required login via email.
- Installed the Solid Security Plugin to prevent unauthorised access by locking out IP addresses after multiple failed login attempts and permanently banning them after repeated lockouts.
- Integrated vulnerability scans and two-factor authentication for extra security.
- Established daily backups using WP Vivid Backup, with both the client and myself receiving notifications and reports on security issues and backup status.
For the document library, I created a custom post type that requires users to log in before accessing sensitive policy documents, ensuring only authorised service providers could view them.
Results
The Flourish with Phoenix website successfully met all of the client’s objectives. It provides a clean, user-friendly experience while being highly accessible to individuals with additional needs. The client is confident they can manage the site moving forward, thanks to their familiarity with WordPress and the additional guidance provided, including a well-regarded Bricks Builder video series on YouTube.
The client has been particularly pleased with how clear and concise the website is, and how well it works across all devices. Although they haven’t yet made significant changes, they feel assured that they will be able to do so easily. I’ve also committed to providing at least one hour of voluntary maintenance per month for plugin updates and any content updates as needed.
Conclusion
This project delivered a secure, manageable, and accessible website for Flourish with Phoenix. By creating a dedicated online space that accurately reflects the program’s values and mission, we’ve helped them better engage with their community. As the site evolves, I remain available to support their ongoing needs, ensuring their online presence remains strong and secure.
